Party For A Purpose: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fundraiser

  • D9 Brewing Company

2 years ago Shelby Purvis celebrated her Sweet 16th Birthday with a fever, joint aches and a transfusion. Days later she was diagnosed with High-Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.). After several long hospital stays and surgery, she would most of the next 12 months quarantined at home. While other teenagers were learning to drive and enjoying high school life, Shelby was studying at home or at clinic getting chemotherapy.

Now celebrating her 18th birthday and passing the 2 year anniversary of her diagnosis, Shelby is her outgoing self serving others in need. Even while stuck at home, Shelby has done fundraisers to help several charities like Make-A-Wish and Hope Cancer. She was nominated for Woman of the Year with the Leukemia & Lymphomas Society and she couldn't be happier. Raising funds and awareness to end blood cancers is a big deal. LLS has raised over $1 billion dollars to fund research and are at the forefront of grants for "Fire with Fire" program that uses HIV cells to beat terminal cancer.

Not only will Shelby graduate high school this summer, she will graduate treatment on July 29th. A bright future of college is right around the corner. To celebrate this banner year she is honoring the LLS nomination with a big event thanks to some great sponsors and hosted by D9 Brewing in Cornelius. With the support we've received from so many great organizations, we've invited Be The Match bone marrow registry, Alex's Lemonade Stand which funds childhood cancer research, and Ace & TJs Grin Kids who grant wishes for children facing tough medical conditions.

Last year's Man and Woman of the Year campaign in Charlotte raised nearly $500,000. Every dollar is a vote for Shelby. We will have great vendors, raffles, silent auctions and event t-shirts. Come out and support the mission to end blood cancers - and have a great time doing it!

Scout's Honor - Community Brew Release

  • D9 Brewing Company

Scout's Honor is a dry Irish Stout created by Tim Conlan in honor of his father Pete. Mr. Conlan was a mentor to many young men in their hometown of Wharton, NJ where he volunteered as a Scout Master to the local Boy Scout troop.

Pete was diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer in late 2014 and passed away New Years eve. Tim's friend and few scout, Adam Jones, suggested brewing this beer to honor his fathers memory. All profits from the sale of this small batch beer will be donated in Pete's name to the American Cancer Society.

Please join us at D9 Brewing Company on April 2nd from 6-10pm to support Tim and all those effected by cancer.

Queen City Brewers Festival

  • Bojangles’ Coliseum

Charlotte, NC – The fourth annual Queen City Brewers Festival (QCBF) will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the legendary Bojangles’ Coliseum. QCBF is a tasting event that showcases Charlotte’s breweries, brewpubs, bottle shops and craft beer-focused restaurants. Funds raised by the event benefit ACEing Autism. QCBF will be the first beer festival held at Bojangles’ Coliseum, which opened in 1955 as Charlotte’s first coliseum.
“The Charlotte beer landscape has soared since the inaugural festival in 2012,” said QCBF creator and Program Director of ACEing Autism-Charlotte, Nils Weldy.  “We needed to find a venue that would properly host our city’s award-winning breweries, exhibitors and sponsors, while maintaining an intimate festival experience.”

Roughly 2,000 attendees will enjoy unlimited beer and food samples on the same floor that has seen performances by Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones, and was once home to the American Basketball Association’s (ABA’s) Carolina Cougars and the Charlotte Checkers.

Brewers are encouraged to bring one “super” flavor or style of beer especially for QCBF, as the Super Bowl takes place the following day. Works by local artists and live music will be on hand during each of the two tasting sessions:  1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

QCBF’s mission is to spotlight Charlotte’s craft beer industry while raising awareness and funds for ACEing Autism, a non-profit that uses the sport of tennis to connect with children on the autism spectrum.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, December 6, 2014. Updates will be posted regularly on:

Black Ice Imperial Black Ale Release Party

  • D9 Brewing Company

Black Ice is back!! Have you been waiting all year for the sweet rush of chocolate and coffee with a finish of whiskey and oak? Wait no longer!

Join us on Black Friday for our return of the Black Ice Imperial Black Ale Party!

Sitting on the fringes of a porter and stout, Black Ice is a 10% ABV Imperial Black Ale infused with Organic Raw Peruvian Chocolate Cacao Nibs. We then age the Ale with Oak and Whiskey. The result is a delicious winter warmer seasonal that captures the essence of what a fanatical ale should be.

Black Ice will only be available in our taproom Thanksgiving weekend so you won't want to miss this release!

Before the release of Black Ice grab some of the best beers you have and bring them out to share and taste with other craft beer lovers! We are having a bottle share in the taproom @ 2pm before the festivities kick off!

Don't forget to also get your winter hats ready before you come to the release party. Participate in our ridiculous winter hat contest! The lucky winner will get to take home a free growler of Black Ice and get to kick off the release by getting served the first snifter of Black Ice!

Quite possibly the most illegitimate and unfair judging system in the winter wonderland will determine who sported the best ridiculous winter hat. Details most likely not to come. Just wear your hat, winner will be chosen @ 4pm right before the first glass of Black Ice is served!

We will also have Karma Kafe LLC onsite so be sure to enjoy their delicious food with your Black Ice.

And to top things off Vel-crow takes the stage @ 6pm to deliver some funk for the rest of the night!

This is one release you are not going to want to miss!

The Carolina BrewMasters have always been dedicated to helping our local community. The Charlotte Oktoberfest provides a great opportunity to make an impact.

During the 15 years of hosting our festival, the Carolina BrewMasters have donated close to $500,000 to local charities.

Partnered with the North Carolina Brewers Guild

The NCBG was formed following the ‘Pop the Cap‘initiative which did away with the 6% alcohol cap on beers in North Carolina. Its main objective is to promote NC beer — local, fresh, craft beer. We want to support the beer communities in the state and guide the craft beer aficionados by providing the one source that allows access to the breweries, brewers and their beers wherever they are served, presented, and celebrated.
